THOMASVILLE – Thomas County Central’s track and field team is already establishing personal records just two meets into this season.

Senior Devin Ross sprinted to second place in the 200 meter dash and third place in the 100 meters to lead the boys team to a fifth-place finish overall at Saturday’s Larry Clark Invitational in Bainbridge.

The 4x200 meter relay team of sophomore Jaida Pinkins, freshman Qua’Mya Yearby, junior Trinity Guidon and sophomore Jania Hayes finished in first place for the Lady Jackets.

“The Thomas County Central track and field teams had another productive outing at the Larry Clarke Invitational,” Central coach Mikeal Lovejoy said. “We had several athletes who set new personal bests in their respective events.”

Pinkins also placed third in the triple jump. Teammate and junior Cadence Curnalia placed third in the 800 meters, while freshman Josie Smith and sophomore Zoe Curnalia finished seventh and eighth respectively in the 3,200 meters. Junior Kennedy Warren placed seventh in the discus.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Cadence Curnalia, senior Stella Ward, senior Johana Velasques-Lopez and senior Mikayla Voyles finished third. The group also placed fifth in the 4x400-meter relay.

Other top finishers for the boys included junior Hunter Smith, who placed third in the discus. Freshman Wayne Thompson finished sixth in the 100 meters. Senior Jaiden McLendon tallied a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters. Senior Trey Brenton finished sixth in the discus and eighth in the 110-meter hurdles, while senior Caleb Anderson placed sixth in the shot put. Sophomore Johnny Bradshaw placed seventh in the 800 meters.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Thompson, McLendon, Ross and senior Pascal Taylor finished third. The 4x800-meter relay team of Bradshaw, junior Owen May, freshman Caleb Baggett and freshman Brody Jennings placed fourth, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Bradshaw, McLendon, freshman DaJuan Bell and May finished in fifth place.

Central will compete again on Tuesday at the Chiles Freshman/Sophomore meet in Tallahassee, Florida. The whole team will compete on Wednesday at the Packers’ Home Meet 1 in Moultrie, Georgia.
